HOUSING

With the ever-growing emphasis on fair housing practices, there is a greater need for research that increases the understanding of housing discrimination and low-income programs and offers practical, actionable strategies to increase equality. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, lease or rental of housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin. A critical component of this law is its requirement that recipients of federal housing funds must do more than just avoid discriminating—they must affirmatively take steps to promote equal housing opportunity – known as “affirmatively furthering fair housing.” MDAC has 25 years of experience in providing marketing research, program evaluation, and consulting services for multicultural and hard-to-reach populations in the housing market. All state, county and municipal governments, public housing authorities, and non-profit organizations that receive federal housing funds must periodically analyze the status of housing opportunity in their service area and certify to the federal government that they are affirmatively furthering fair housing. Our approach is to recognize the uniqueness of the housing market and create studies that offer multiple solutions to improve housing programs, further fair housing, and end discrimination.
